Hunger in Yemen is a severe humanitarian crisis that has been exacerbated by ongoing conflict, economic instability, and blockades. Since the civil war began in 2014, millions of Yemenis have faced food insecurity, with the United Nations estimating that around 20 million people are currently experiencing acute hunger.
The situation is particularly dire for children, with many suffering from malnutrition. Factors contributing to this crisis include:
Conflict: The ongoing war has disrupted food production, supply chains, and access to markets.
Economic Collapse: The Yemeni economy has deteriorated, leading to high unemployment and inflation, making food unaffordable for many.
Blockades: Restrictions on imports and aid have limited the availability of food and essential supplies.
Climate Change: Droughts and other climate-related issues have further impacted agricultural production.
International organizations, including the UN and various NGOs, are working to provide humanitarian assistance, but funding shortages and access issues continue to hinder efforts. Addressing the hunger crisis in Yemen requires a multifaceted approach, including peace negotiations, economic support, and increased humanitarian aid.
Albaraka Relief has taken responsibility since 2015 to assist Yemenis throughout these years. We can do it bigger together.
